Visualization of the Week – NOAA Weather Station Network Map

The National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) collectively have a large network of and/or partnership with weather stations across the globe. NWS stations (orange) collect various weather conditions at airports (i.e. temperature, wind speed, wind direction, precipitation, and humidity). NOAA stations (blue) only collect one or a few conditions such as temperature or precipitation. Information from these stations is accessible through the NWS/NOAA Web API. Pan to move around and zoom out to see all the stations across the globe. Hover over a station to get basic information about it. This visualization was developed in Tableau.
